Ammonia is a well-known chemical and produced in more than 200 million tons annually. Catalytic ammonia synthesis was established more than 100 years ago and marked the beginning of synthetic fertilizers, which nowadays feed ca. 50% of world’s population. Ammonia production uses hydrogen. Therefore, hydrogen production routes determine how “green” ammonia is – at present it is based on using fossil hydrogen carriers.
